On 1 of the Nine Noble Virtues
I know, I meant to expound on this more when I got home the day I posted on this originally. The one that I most want to explore is Freedom, Not Slavery.
If you think this will offend you, feel free to skip it. I am not going to wage a comment war with anyone over my personal beliefs. your not going to change my mind, and I'm not going to change yours, so don't even try it. Mmmm kay?
Now before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, realize I am not speaking of literal slavery, in chains, etc. I am speaking of mental slavery espoused by most black christians I have met and know. Like I've said before, I have issues with modern Christianity and the way in which most modern blacks embrace it with a big old hug and a grin.
I can't get behind a religion that was used to enslave my ancestors and keep them in a subservient role, nor can I endorse the "oh well, let G*d do as he will, and I'll toss all personal responsibility out the window. " mind set of so many black xtians I've come across. There seems to be a pervasive, "you must bow down to G*d's will or you are not a good Xtian, you won't be able to enjoy the afterlife.
Well what about the here and now? Why must I succumb to anyone's will and whims in order to enjoy a bounty in the after life? Why should I suffer, scrape and bow to enjoy a supposed wonderful after life when (a.) No One can prove Heaven or Hell Exists (b.) I want to enjoy my time here on Earth NOW, not once I'm dead. (c.) Nothing good has ever come from people being subservient to an ideal, a government or a deity.
As for what initially drew me to the Norse Gods, as well as what I've felt in my practice; is how they are there for me, but want me to be responsible for my own deeds, honor and to keep true to what will honor The Gods, but still make myself a good citizen. There is no sacrifice based on what amounts to a basically empty promise for a great eternal party with old JC and company.
There is no slavery to an ideal, a dogma or what is quoted in a book written by man that rules my actions as a Heathen, but instead I am responsible for my deeds at the end of the day. I know the Gods are there, and when need be they send me a clue by four, but in the end I won't be one who throws up their hands and says oh well, its H*S will, so whatever happens, happens. I'll be happily walking into the Halls of My Ancestors and enjoying a stay there.
Its a long ramble, but its whats on my mind at the moment. Got something intelligent to say? Go for it,but know I'm not going to tolerate arguments for arguments sake here. Got nothing to say? Move along.
That is all...
