"Neither Here Nor There...": How far she's come...Really?

Saturday, January 24, 2009

I've been feeling out of sorts with my faith, where it is now, what it means to me and if I honestly believe in it any more. I was attracted to Asatru because of the tenets of honor, being responsible for your own actions, words, and deeds and not laying the blame or praise on a deity.

Lately, well for the last few months I haven't felt the pull of the Gods not even a hey we haven't abandoned you kind of prod from them. It's not like I don't care, but I noticed my altar is dusty, my horn is empty and my runes are going unused.

I do honestly think a big part of it is not having a Kindred here that I can talk to and learn from on a constant basis. The other part is not wanting to deal with the head of the Kindred and what's turned into a feud between us that's turning me off of being Heathen if this is what it turns you into. I know not all Heathens are crazy, or get so wrapped up in the dogma of their beliefs that they think they are better than everyone else or their faith makes them superior.

But not wanting to deal with the person who introduced you to the faith, and not wanting to make the effort to be with the Kindred you're a part of makes it hard to keep the faith as it were. It takes effort to believe and right now I'm not seeing where its worth the effort for me. I wish there were Heathen Folk found in Chicago that aren't tied to Neo Nazi nutters or Wicca-tru but that seems to be few and far between.

*sigh* I don't know where I want to go with this or where I'll wind up but right now I'm feeling pretty lost and unsure of where I stand with myself and the Gods.

Yule 07, bonds and Kindreds

Yule this year was excellent. I'm glad I was able to make it this year. Mostly because I missed my connection with the Folk, the head of the Hearth and my Systir. I also miss being able to have good conversations on the Lore, the Folk and the Faith.

I get a little tired of defending my beliefs from those who think all Asatruar are red neck hillbillies who find the Faith while in Jail for various crimes or racist jackasses who are using the faith as a shield for their dishonor.

On top of our regular celebrations and forn and Symbel led there was also a new oathbinding. Those of us present in the morning renewed our oaths to Suthristein, to Lonnie, and to Marcel. If Kevin been able to stay we would have renewed those to him as well. My Brudir, Danny and I also renewed our vows to each other and to our Hearth. Then we declared the founding of Kindred Mimirstein as a Western Clan of Suthristein, and oathed it to Suthristein, and several of our new members became members of Kindred Mimirstein.**

Hail Ya'll!

Hail Suthristein! Hail Mimirstein!

** Since Danny already said it well, I snagged his announcement and tweaked it for here

Interesting

Inmate says he needs Thor's hammer, drum

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I understand he needs/wants these things but he's in jail as well. What are your thoughts?

Fri Dec 21, 10:10 PM ET

An inmate is suing the Utah Department of Corrections for denying him his right to practice an ancient Nordic religion while behind bars.

Michael Polk is serving time for aggravated assault and robbery. He filed a lawsuit against corrections officials in federal court, accusing them of denying him religious items that he says are necessary to practice the Asatru religion.

The religion worships ancient Nordic gods like Odin, Thor, Tyr and Heimdal.

In the lawsuit, Polk says he has been a member of the Asatru faith since 2005, and in order to properly practice it he needs items including: a Thor's Hammer, a prayer cloth, a Mead Horn used for drinking Wassail, a drum made of wood and boar skin, a rune staff and a sword.
