On Honoring the Ancestors
Today is the second anniversary of my grandmother passing away. I've been very sad this weekend, but last night I did a mini Blot to the Gods and my Ancestors. My good friend Meg W was there with me, and it felt good to raise a glass and honor the Gods and Ancestors.
I also felt, much much better emotionally about missing my grandmother. I hope wherever she is, she knows she's missed and loved.
I may not always be the best grandchild or Hel, even child but I do miss that fiery little woman.
To honor the Gods and Ancestors, I first was going to offer up a beer that was hers that I took from the house, but despite being refrigerated it wasnt fit for drinking so I offered some of it up and poured the rest out. I then offered the Gods some Cuervo tequila; there were slim pickings for appropriate Blot drinks, so the Gods got some good stuff.
I used the cup I got at Ren Faire with Yggdrasil on it.
After honoring the Aesir & Vanir the Ancestors got their due and finally we just shared memories of those we miss, and love.
I'm glad I did it, and perhaps it will motivate me to do more blots and such solo. It's hard sometimes to not have the Kindred closer or even other practitioners nearby. I digress though, from my original point that I'm glad I raised a glass and then shared good memories with my friend.
Hail ya'll.
